Big news yesterday, June 28, 1881, Virgil Earp went and got himself appointed Town Marshal of Tombstone. He replaces Ben Sippy who was a fair man. Better Virgil then me. You couldn’t pay me enough to take that job. I will add that Virgil is the correct man for the job though I am a bit concerned how he will treat me.

I was just setting here inside the Long Branch Saloon and realized that it was on this day in 1865 that Virgil was mustered out of the Union Army. Virgil didn’t care much for me and I can say the same for him. Now everyone knows that Wyatt and I were good friends but I’ll bet you didn’t realize that Morg took a real shine to me and we paled around far more then Wyatt and I.
Did you know that at one time Wyatt, Bat Masterson, Luke Short and I all worked together turning cards at the Oriental Saloon in Tombstone ?

Hey did you hear about the shootout last week ?
Brothers Ike and Bill Haslett got word that outlaws mean to do them harm so the Haslett’s decide to shot first. The Haslett’s wait concealed outside a store as Bill Leonard and Harry “The Kid” Head approach. Shots are exchanged and the outlaws are dead. It’s a good way to start the day if you are the Haslett’s.
A good way for me to start the day is getting up around noon and taking a nip of the ” critter”.

Well, here I set playing a game of solitaire when I should be trimming the fat off some poor cow poke. Such is the life of a professional gambler.
Speaking of gamblers, did you know we professionals made a habit of not playing with each other ? It is true. Playing against another skilled player was a good way for one of us to lose our stake and if that happened it meant getting involved in some type of physical labor in order to refill our poke.
Hell, I’d rather have to spend the night with Kate then toil for someone else but that’s a whole other story.
Hey barkeep, my bottle seems to have a hole in it. Could you be a gentlemen and fetch me another ?
